Why You Should Invest in Braces for Your Teen

Orthodontic treatment can be for people of all ages. Braces for adults are not uncommon, but there are several benefits to wearing braces sooner rather than later. Here are some of the main reasons you should invest in braces now for your teen.

Less Extensive

Orthodontic treatment is generally less extensive for a child or teenager than getting braces for older adults. This is because the child’s teeth are still growing and will change shape naturally as they grow. If you were to get braces for adults, your treatment could last much longer than someone who started wearing their braces when they were younger. Braces for adults are still effective, but they may take longer compared to braces for teens.

Treatment Will Be Easier

When your child’s teeth are still coming in, their orthodontist will be able to easily shift them into the correct position. This can make treatment much easier and faster than when they’re an adult. Adults who decide to wear braces can expect to wear them for about three to four years. On the other hand, teenagers can typically expect to wear braces for about two years on average, according to Humana.

Better Overall Health

By treating your child’s smile sooner rather than later, you can prevent or reduce the effects of common dental issues like gum disease and tooth decay. Wearing braces as a child or teenager can also prevent jaw problems like TMJ disorder and snoring. Also, they’ll have less tooth crowding and it will be easier for them to clean their teeth. Plus, their smile will give them better confidence.

Pushing Off Doesn’t Solve the Problem

By treating your child’s orthodontic issues early on, you can prevent the problem from getting worse in the future. Putting off orthodontic care doesn’t get rid of the problem, and can actually make it worse. For instance, those with dental alignment issues may experience difficulties sleeping, eating, and speaking.
