How Invisalign Treatment Varies Per Person

Your orthodontist has many ways of giving you the best smile possible, but Invisalign treatment has become one of the most popular options. Some people prefer Invisalign over braces, but it works differently for everybody. Let’s learn how!

What Is Invisalign?

According to Invisalign, more than 10 million people, including over 1.4 million teenagers, have already used the Invisalign treatment to renovate their smiles into the best version possible. But what is it? Invisalign is the best alternative to the metal braces that have been so common in dental history, but they are just as efficient. They consist of aligners that look almost exactly like the teeth-whitening trays you might have used before.

You must wear them for 22 hours a day, and they have the same effect as braces but without adding metal to your mouth. An additional benefit is that no one can see them, which is aesthetically pleasing. Some recent studies have shown that they could be even more beneficial than regular braces.

How Does It Vary Between Each Person?

Creating your Invisalign treatment takes some time, but it’s worth it. Firstly, they have to make them to your exact specifications, which means taking photos, a 3D scan of your mouth, an X-ray, and then your orthodontist will determine if the procedure is right for you. They’ll write a recommendation, and you’ll go to the next level.

Depending on each person’s mouth and teeth positions, you might need between 6 and 48 aligners. Each aligner will move one tooth, and you might have to change them every week or so. It’s important to know that you have to be under strict supervision by your orthodontist, and it takes responsibility, constancy, and patience. Otherwise, it will not work.

The duration of each aligner depends on your individual situation and how they move your teeth, but they should work as long as you wear them for 22 hours each day. People normally take them off to eat or brush their teeth, which is another benefit of the Invisalign treatment. If you don’t follow this rule, you might be wearing your aligners for far longer than your orthodontist planned.

In general, the treatment takes 12 months to work, but the great part is that you’ll start noticing the difference after only a few weeks. You need to take care of your aligners, clean them, and tell your orthodontist if they get damaged. Responsibility is key! For more information, be sure to reach out to Dr. Bret Ortho today.
