Are You Qualified for an Adult Braces Treatment?

According to the American Association of Orthodontists, about four million people have braces. If you think those people are all teenagers, think again! Braces aren’t just for kids anymore. If you’re ready to correct alignment or bite issues, now is a good time to see if you qualify for adult braces.

How Can an Adult Get Braces?

Adults can get braces in one of two ways. The first way is to go through with traditional braces treatment. This involves metal brackets being glued to your teeth and connected with wires. The braces will be adjusted every few weeks to gradually move your teeth into place. While this method is effective, it can be quite noticeable. If you’re concerned about how braces will affect your appearance, you may want to consider the second option.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a treatment that uses clear, plastic aligners to gradually move your teeth. The aligners are virtually invisible, so no one will even know you’re wearing them. Invisalign is also removable, so you can take them out for special occasions or to eat and drink whatever you want.

During the consultation, the orthodontist will take X-rays and impressions of your teeth to create a treatment plan. You’ll get a series of aligners that you’ll need to wear for about two weeks each. You’ll then come in for regular appointments so the orthodontist can check your progress and give you the next set of aligners.

Do I Automatically Qualify?

While Invisalign is a great option for many adults, it’s not right for everyone. The best way to find out if you qualify is to schedule a consultation with an orthodontist. During the consultation, the orthodontist will assess your teeth and bite to determine if Invisalign is right for you.

If Invisalign isn’t an option, the orthodontist may recommend traditional braces. As long as your mouth and teeth are healthy, you should be able to get braces at any age. Either way, you’ll be on your way to achieving the smile you have always wanted.

If you’re an adult who desires straight teeth, it isn’t too late to achieve your goal! Whether you qualify for traditional braces or invisible aligners depends on the severity of your case. The only way to find out is to consult with Bret Johnson Orthodontics, so book an appointment today!
