Braces

What Dental Issues Can Braces Treatment Solve?

There are different treatments for various oral problems. One common form of orthodontic therapy is braces, which can be used to treat several orthodontic alignment issues. Braces can help both adults and children achieve healthier smiles. In this article, we’ll discuss some of the dental problems braces can solve.

Misaligned Jaw

Misaligned teeth and jaws are generally treated with braces treatment over a couple of years. This treatment is crucial because a misaligned jaw can lead to oral health issues down the line if left ignored. Braces treatment can help bring your teeth and jaw into a better position, making them easier to keep clean. Braces are worn over time to correct the problem in the most comfortable way possible and to allow teeth to settle in their new positions.

Overcrowded and Irregularly Spaced Teeth

One of the most common reasons why people wear braces is to correct overcrowding or irregularly spaced teeth. Overcrowding occurs when the permanent teeth grow out, but they don’t have enough space to grow straight. It’s a form of malocclusion or misalignment because the teeth will overlap with each other. Overcrowding can be mild, moderate, or severe, and braces are often the prescribed treatment. Braces are also effective for snaggleteeth and diastemas.

Overbites and Underbites

When a person has an overbite, their upper teeth overlap the bottom teeth. This situation is reversed when a person has an underbite. It’s crucial to seek orthodontic treatment for both these issues. Braces treatment can correct this problem by slowly applying pressure and correcting the misalignment.

The good news is that there are several types of braces to choose from, including traditional metal braces, clear braces, or ceramic braces. The best option depends on the patient’s age and whether their issue is mild, moderate, or severe. Many parents wonder if they should take their kids to see an orthodontist. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, it’s recommended to schedule an evaluation no later than age seven or as soon as you notice any sign of orthodontic problems. Resolving the issue sooner is preferable given that the teeth will adjust better to the treatment. Additionally, braces are associated with many benefits, including enhanced appearance, improved oral health, and, for some, greater self-esteem.

These are just some of the common issues you can address with braces. Your dentist can prescribe braces treatment and address other oral problems, like issues with chewing, speech and periodontal problems.
